Help Support Free Estate Planning for Police & Firefighters

Posted Thursday, November 6, 2014 by John S. Palmer

The First Responder Will Clinic provides free basic estate planning services to Washington police officers and firefighters (and their spouses or registered domestic partners). The clinic recently became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so contributions are now tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

The Clinic is now participating in the Amazon Smile charitable giving program, which donates 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases to the charitable organization of your choice. While this can be a great way to support the clinic at no cost (the prices of the goods are the same), no charitable deduction can be taken because Amazon makes the donation.

The Clinic has also arranged for a local fundraising event. On Wednesday, November 12, from 6-9 pm at Evereve, a women’s clothing boutique at University Village; 15% of all sales will be donated to the Clinic.

The Will Clinic program sponsors periodic clinics, usually on a Saturday, at which volunteer attorneys, paralegals and support staff prepare wills, powers of attorney and health care directives for qualified first responders. Clients must be Washington residents and have assets of $750,000 or less ($1.5 million if married).

For more information about the program, visit the First Responder Will Clinic’s new website.
